Meditation is a creative act
Meditation is about playing with energy, and playing with energy is fun, healing, and very creative indeed.
The only meditation style I ever studied quickly became the exact right fit for me, because it is a creative style.
My first meditation class helped me become conscious of energy, which I already knew about on some level, but it didn’t feel quite real to me. Maybe that was because I had no idea how to work with energy consciously. I was delighted with the class I took, and the teacher was fun and knew how to make the tools and information enjoyable.
It started getting more real for me when I started realizing how much better I was feeling, that my energy was actually moving, and I was able to release the uncomfortable energies I handled from everyday life.
Before I took that meditation class, I believed that meditation was serious and kind of dry, that I’d have to sit on a little cushion on the floor, which I did not want to do, and that I had to do all of this correctly for it to work. I had no idea why I’d want to meditate, but I did know I wanted to learn how to ground.
In my very first meditation class, I was taught how to ground myself, and it worked! I could really feel it, suddenly it became real. I was also surprised to realize that meditation could be both amused and creative. Granted, it’s not always either of those things, but it’s very possible to have fun playing with energy.
That is how I see my meditation practice: moving energy, being conscious of energy, having communication within myself, and that it’s creative doing all of this.
I’ve gotten some of my best ideas for new creative projects while meditating. They are able to show up and I am able to have them, because I moved all of the other noise out of my way.
After 24 years of meditating, I’ve gotten pretty good at showing up for myself in my daily meditation practice.
I’ve been a meditation teacher for 22 of those years. One thing I see with myself and my students is that there is no one size fits all in meditation, energy awareness, and ways of processing and letting go of energy. Each of us is unique, each of us has a creative spirit.
While one person may be drawn to mindfulness meditation, another swears by their transcendental practice, and others like myself love the more energy awareness active forms of meditation. This form is the one I practice and teach, I find it to be a very creative form, and most conducive to being a conscious psychic and medium.
There is no one correct form of meditation. Mindfulness seemed to be everywhere for a while, but it isn’t the whole shebang, not in the least. Any form of meditation that works for you can help you become more aware and conscious, and heal yourself. Don’t do it because your friend likes it, or someone else said it was the best kind of meditation, or a celebrity touts it - find and practice a meditation style that works for you.
It’s never about doing it right, or correctly. It’s about what serves you, what’s helping you, what works for you to have communication with yourself, with your body? What helps you feel good? Meditation helps get energy in motion. Stuck energy leads to stuck things in our bodies and lives.
Here’s how my recent meditation sessions have been going.
First of all, I need to get up and move around my house, chat with my husband, make tea, check my schedule and make sure I have my bearings for the day to come.
Then I go to my office, close the door, put on some classical or piano music (usually), and write my morning pages. I’ve written morning pages off and on for about 30 years. After not writing for several years, I picked them up again 2 months ago, and haven’t missed a day since. My writing practice has deepened and grown, and the things I want to create are getting sorted out and falling into place. I know the morning pages have contributed to this, they are a helpful practice.
I give most of the credit for my growth and changes to my meditation and psychic practice, which helps me even sit down in the first place to write anything. Meditation in the morning makes a great deal of difference in the quality of my day, and my ability to think clearly, feel calmer, and have more space and perspective, not to mention maintaining (or finding) my sense of humor.
Honestly, a sense of humor, amusement, and curiosity go really far in anything we do in life. Bringing all of this into your meditation practice can make that practice so much more rewarding and fun.
When I sit down to meditate, I make more tea, turn off the music, buzzers, phone, and sit in a comfortable chair.
Eyes closed, breathe, and start communicating with myself. Notice my body, say hello to it. What’s happening within me today? Am I in a funk or pretty chill, energized or tired, or am I handling something that feels not so good?
Recently, I’ve been in a new creative space within myself. It had been challenging for a while, but the heaviness I’ve experienced is lifting now. It’s always amazing to me when I start to move out of what has felt like a long challenging journey through a big life change, that I actually one day get to the end of that particular time. I am there now, I think. So my meditation practice is changing again.
I sit in meditation, grounding myself, running neutral energy through my channels, and in general, clearing out all of what’s ready to go. I’ve often described this as ‘housework’, cleaning out the dust and debris left behind from living life, things I picked up or took on. Wherever it came from, it doesn’t need to be analyzed or organized, most of it just needs to be released. This is the work a lot of the time - choosing to let go of what I don’t have to control, fix, hold onto for others, or solve.
As I release energy, I find that every time, without fail, I feel lighter, maybe an answer I was looking for shows up suddenly, or I have a brilliant idea that appears out of the ether. Meditation, when it’s done well is energy work. You are changing your energy, and it’s very healing for you.
I also know that some days will feel like a total slog, because whatever I’m moving out is heavy. In which case, I might need an extra boost of fun, rest, or just to go for a walk. This time will also pass, and do so more easily if I’m not expecting perfection from every meditation session. Each one will be different, because I am different every time.
Letting go is the gift, healing, and the challenge.
Letting go is one of the best reasons to start and maintain your own meditation practice. Seriously. Letting go of anything that isn’t yours or you in the present time, that’s not your responsibility, energy, pain, fear, emotions, etc., changes your life. When you release that stuff or find a way to move it out of you, your whole life changes to become more about you. Which is what you are here for.
Each of us is connected with many other people. It’s what makes life beautiful, rich, and interesting. It can also be a way we forget who we are and get so mixed up with other energies that we feel super sensitive, or confused about what to do with all of what’s running through us. If we are very sensitive to other people’s energy, we might be picking all of theirs up and it feels weird inside of us as a result.
This is exactly what I was doing for many years before I found my first meditation class. I had no idea that I was doing this, but I did know I was doing something that wasn’t working for me, and I wanted to change it.
My meditation practice is a valued part of my life, a necessary tool to help me in all endeavors. I wouldn’t go a day without it.
