Everything is alive and has its own consciousness.
Every part of this earth has energy, spirit, sentience. Everything we humans have created comes from the earth and the stars.
‘Our original instructions are to listen to the cloud floating by and the wind blowing by. Everything is alive and has its own consciousness.’ —Lakota elder Tiokasin Ghosthorse
Spirit is alive in each of us, and in everyone we know.
We can see and feel the spirit of the people in our lives, we experience energy from each other from the time we are born. We are attracted to the spirit of others, we sense and know it deeply, even when we are unconscious to this.
Whether we think of it as energy, spirit, style, or personality, it’s what makes each human unique. As children, we were attuned to this in our peers, and in the adults around us. The more sensitive among us could feel everyone’s energy, and thought that everyone did this. We were attracted to situations and people because of their energy, even if we didn’t know we were doing this. We were repelled by certain people for the same reason.
As a small child, you’d like someone’s energy and immediately want to be their friend. That connection between your spirits was something you could feel.
Energy is very real, and everyone and everything has it. From your parents to your best friend, your favorite teacher, the next door neighbor, and also the people you avoid, you have been connected to and in relationship with the spirit of the world and the people around you. Whether it’s being psychic, energy awareness, karma, shared interests, or something that makes no sense to the analytical among us, it’s real.
As humans, one thing we do constantly and seamlessly, often unconsciously, is match to each other. The act of creating consciously begins with your energy. Having an awareness of energy and becoming conscious of it, is about discerning which energies you want to match to, and also which ones you don’t.
Energy is powerful stuff: imagine yourself in a room filled with angry people.
You weren’t angry when you went into the room, but you can feel and are aware of the anger of others. How do you feel after being around the angry people for a while? Pick any emotion, or way of being, and imagine this. A room filled with happy people is so much lighter and more fun to sit in than one filled with invalidated or unkind people. Both are infectious.
Who and what we choose to match to, matters. Being human is complex, complicated, amazing, and has many rules, nuances, and inconsistencies. There is no one correct way to be a human, however, some ways might be easier than others.
Becoming conscious is learning what your own truth is, and who you really are. You don’t have to make sense of this to anyone or wait for their approval. When you know yourself, you won’t need anyone else’s approval.
This planet is filled with spirit.
It can get a bit more challenging when we, in our human centric way, see ourselves as being the most important life forms on this planet, the ones who get to call the shots. Where we have gotten stuck is forgetting where we came from, and why we chose to come here at all. Perhaps this is what we are all here trying to learn.
We are attracted to this earth, it’s the biggest healing for so many of us. Having a connection to the earth gives us something that nothing else can replace. Because of our collective unconsciousness about how much we need our earth in order to live, we have sickened ourselves and this planet.
We’ve believed mistakenly that we need money, profit, and constant growth and expansion in order to live well, that competition and survival of the fittest is what life is about. A great disconnect has come from this belief, a disconnect from the earth and its healing spirit. We have forgotten we are made of the same elements as our earth, and also the stars.
We can become aware of the many gifts we receive when we see the earth as having sentience, spirit.
When we know that every creature and everything growing on our marvelous miraculous planet has spirit, we behave differently than when we just look at earth as a commodity we own. Knowing the spirit of the earth, and seeking it out in our daily lives, is healing.
As humans, we’ve mistakenly come to believe that we are the most important, the only show worth seeing here. Every creature, flower, mountain, tree, body of water, desert, and everything else you can see around you, also has spirit. Many cultures have known this throughout human history, and sadly, we have forgotten much of what humans knew for many years.
I believe that it’s not too late to do this, and that every action matters. Every single act of consciousness on this earth, communication with the spirit all around us, matters. Starting a garden, even a small one, communicating our thanks to the trees, flowers, bees, bats and birds, and all the other lifeforms, matters.
As every clairvoyant learns early in their training, saying hello to the spirit in each other, and all around us, is healing. Hello is consciousness. For this solstice, this changing of the season, let’s say hello to the spirit of our only home, this beautiful earth.

Inspiration for living on a magnificent planet
Everything is magical, everything has spirit. Let’s create our reality from knowing this.
First up: On my To Read list: ‘How the Sea Came To Be’ by Jennifer Berne, illustrated by Amanda Hall.
I love children’s books! The stories and illustrations are so inspiring to me as an artist and writer. I have a small collection of my favorites, and intend to expand it! This book is one I want to own, it’s gorgeous. Read about it in The Marginalian.
Ernst Haeckel (February 16, 1834–August 9, 1919), was a German naturalist who would go on to coin the term ecology and become a preeminent champion of evolution. He created brilliant illustrations of the natural world, recording his findings in brilliantly colored illustrations. Learn more about Haeckel.
I’ve looked to Haeckel’s beautiful illustrations for years, as an artist and designer they are inspiring to me. As a psychic, I can see the energy he wanted to show us all; ‘Look at this!’ There’s much love and warmth in his work.
